The Date Street Trio brings together three seasoned musicians—Frank Rivera, Rob T. Carey, and Rhys Alexander—each with a rich and diverse musical background spanning decades, genres, and stages across the country.

Frank Rivera, a lifelong saxophonist, began his musical journey in 1963. Over the years, he has built an impressive résumé that includes performing in high school and college ensembles, as well as spending three years playing with an Army band. His experience ranges from large big bands to intimate small combos. In addition to performing, Frank dedicated 38 years to teaching music throughout New Mexico, shaping generations of young musicians. Among his proudest moments are performances for legendary entertainers Bob Hope and Barbara McNair.

Rob T. Carey has performed as a frontman on some of New York City’s most iconic stages, including The Bitter End. A vocalist, guitarist, and occasional harmonica player, Rob has written and recorded multiple albums of original music spanning Americana, rock and roll, blues rock, and country rock. His work has been featured in festivals, colleges, radio shows, soundtracks, podcasts, and venues ranging from dive bars to weddings and even street corners and boats. Inspired by his recording experiences with top engineers and studios, Rob went on to build his own studio. After nearly a decade working as a guide for Ted Turner, he transitioned into education in 2022, joining TCMSD as a history teacher before moving into modern band and guitar instruction. It was there that he connected with Frank Rivera and Rhys Alexander, helping form what would become The Date Street Trio.

Rhys Alexander, originally from Minneapolis, is a versatile guitarist known for his work in blues rock, reggae, and jazz. Before relocating to Caballo, New Mexico, four years ago, Rhys was active in the Minneapolis music scene, performing in reggae bands, jazz ensembles, and Grateful Dead tribute groups. His playing is heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin, with “Stairway to Heaven” being the first song he learned at age 16—a piece he spent six months mastering. Over the years, he expanded into funk and R&B, collaborating with a Grammy Award–winning vocalist from Sounds of Blackness. His diverse experiences and stylistic range bring depth and energy to the trio’s sound.

What began as a shared vision for a community band evolved into a tight, dynamic trio. Together, The Date Street Trio blends decades of experience, a wide spectrum of musical influences, and a shared passion for performance into a unique and engaging sound.
